Project Objectives
- Design and develop a laser marking system to imprint text or pictures on objects with various surface materials
- A laser marking system is an effective way to permanently print information on objects after they have been manufactured. This is a rapidly growing area with tremendous future potential.
Summary of Project and Results (Non-Confidential)
- Helped design and build a diode pumped, Q-switched, Vanadate (Nd:YVO4) laser with frequency doubling optics
- Implemented fiber optic coupling of the laser diodes
- Designed and built a thermoelectric cooling system to keep the laser crystal at the optimum temperature
- Helped write the software to control the rotating mirrors that directed the laser beam
