Project Objectives
- Design and construct an electrochemical machining system that uses a heterogeneous electrolyte assisted by electrically conducting carbon particles
- The use of a heterogeneous electrolyte has the potential to greatly enhance the rate of removal of material, and reduce the power required and operating costs of electrochemical machining
Summary of Project and Results (Non-Confidential)
- Developed the heterogeneous electrolyte and suspension of electrically conducting carbon particles
- Constructed a piston pump system to pump the electrolyte and particles
- Constructed a flexible baffle to contain the machining process
- Designed the cathode tool that controls the electrochemical machining process
- Constructed a table that moves in three dimensions and is controlled by gear motors and software
- Constructed a high voltage and current electrical path network to direct the high current for the electrochemical process
